Recently bought a asus Stirx 980ti off the forum for my kids birthday, put it in his pc this weekend but am I missing something??
Wanted this card because it came with a decent factory overclock and didn't wanna leave any software on for him to mess with like afterburner, but the clock speeds seem to be very low compared to what they should be.

Installed the latest version of gpuz and shows the following.

GPU clock 1000mhz (should be 1291mhz)
Memory 1753mhz (should be 1800mhz)
Boost 1076mhz (should be 1291mhz)

What's your thought's?

What game are you running and what are the temps like?
Tried heaven and fortnite temps are fine high 70s in heaven
But I'm not explaining it very well but in gpuz the gpu clock and default clock is showing as 1000mhz and the same for memory and boost just showing the default and and that's what the cards running at when I'm thinking the core clock should be much higher? The memory and boost as its a strix card

Found out there are two versions that look exactly the same which I didn't know about, because I didn't get a box again I didn't know.

This is the
ASUS GeForce GTX 980 Ti DC3 Gaming Graphics Card 6GB

There is an oc edition too and that's the one that has the higher clocks, its no big deal the card works fine so will just leave it as it is.

Just overClock it it with afterburner. My reference one did 1450/6000 There’s a load of extra performance on those babies

I'd just leave it. Its a decent enough card. Can't overclock it without software stuck on the machine anyway.

If it was in my machine I would happily just overclock it with afterburner, but my 8 year old can't be trusted.

What I find hard to believe is asus released a card with such low clock speeds with the strix cooler on it!
I've not seen a 980ti with clocks that low b4
GPU clock 1000mhz
Memory 1753mhz
Boost 1076mhz

And yes but he did say he doesn't want overclocking software on the machine for his kid to play around with.

I meant of what he could have ~1450/1500

you could always try to flash the bios? Check the bios number in gpu-z then compare it to the tech power up database.

If you’re not comfortable doing it then don’t. There’s always a risk of a bricked card. If it’s for your 8 yr old I Wouldn’t worry. Maybe when he’s bigger crack open AB.

Could always do custom bios flash with overclocks ? But with the recent threads of these cards failing and burning id leave it stock
