980Ti Upgrade

Well seeing as nothing new is planned from NVidia and I feel the upgrade itch I'm planning on getting a 980Ti (upgrade from a 780 GTX) but just wanted to check if the Gigabyte Z97X motherboard would be ok and wouldn't be a bottle neck for it? I'm running the Intel 4790K i7 on it as well...

You'll need to upgrade to an Intel 6 core processor and x99 mainboard at least to fully utilise a 980ti.......

Sorry, yes it will be fine. I thought this was some sort of troll thread? I mean a high end i7 with a mainboard that's only 1 generation old, why wouldn't it be more than adequate....

lol no sorry it's a serious question, I've had this hardware for 2 years and purchasing a graphics card for £630 I just wanted to triple check that nothing had moved on that quickly

I have a 4690K in a Gigabyte Z97X-SLI and the jump in performance from a heavily overclocked 970 to a 980 Ti was huuuuuge! So much so that I went and bought a 1440p 144hz monitor to allow the beast (a Gigabyte G1) to stretch it's legs.

It's a valid question though less relevant at the moment. When I bought my 4690K 18 months ago my friend started saying he should upgrade so as not to be left behind. He has a 4770K! After a little explaining he saw reason.
