I've got a 980ti atm I was hoping to buy 3080 but because of all the stock of GPU I've never did then I thought I would wait for 4080 but seeing the price of them I really don't want to pay that much I know AMD are going to tell us about the new GPU 2nd November but I don't know if I should buy 3080 fe or wait to see what AMD do
what would you do?
Is it stupid buying 3080 2 years on for there normal price?
and do you think AMD will undercut Nvidia?

nV has obvious designs to not improve price/performance this generation. A 3080 bought now will likely hold its value better than prior outmoded cards. Otherwise put, when the performance-equivalent of a 3080 is released in Q1 e.g. "4070", it's going to cost around the same as a 3080 now i.e. £700.

That said, unless you absolutely need a new card e.g. your life depended on it, I'd still hold off until Nov 2 to see what AMD has in store as they may come with better price/performance than nV (although I wouldn't expect any miracles).

In summary, it's always a precarious time to buy a new graphics card around the launch of a new gen. However, you're slightly less likely to be disappointed value-wise this round when buying a 3-series card (because of nV's outlandish pricing of the 4-series). In absolute terms, it's ridiculous we'll likely still be paying £700 for 3080-level performance 2 1/2 years after its release.

as a former 980Ti owner myself I went to a 3080 and was very happy.

Your answer is to buy a used 3080 and not pay a stupid inflated price.
