Just got a brand new zotac amp 980ti card from here t'other day.
It arrived in a very big box, inside was another big box, then out came the quite frankly enormous graphics card!
Last one i saw that big was an old quadro fx 4600.
So i installed it into my R5, plenty of space, onto my Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 Skylake board.
Wow, is that thing sagging?!
So the question is, given how much it doesn't line up, should i be worried about it stressing the port over time? Is there a way to support the rear end other than propping it up with a stick? How much weight can that motherboard pci e lane handle?

Cheeers :)

Doesn't screwing it to the case properly take most of the weight?
Is correct , i have one here and no sag what so ever. Also don't think the sagging would be good for your MB

Last two GPU's I've had sagged a fair bit. Never had any issue. Apparently this is fairly common. Wouldn't worry about, but you can always prop it up with something if it makes you feel better.

If your worried stick something in your case to 'take the load' or buy one of those snake oil gpu raise pole thingys.

My 980ti HOF was sagging to the point that the memory was loosing contact with the heatsink. It was clear that it's the flexing pcb of the graphics card that's causing the sag.
What I did was remove the heatsink and tighten backplate screws then added some metal shims under the screws of the heatsink which fixed the sag completely.

It is screwed into the case via two screws, but as you run your eye over it it is very clear that the weight is causing it to go off centre.
It works, but i`m just wondering about things such as thermal creep, loss of contact, stress etc that may occur over time.

Do you think there's a mx weight threshold gfx cards are going to reach before they have to redesign the interface?
I do remember the old quadros having a metal support bracket that ran out the back that offset the weight and am just surprised that this sin't more of an issue?

regards

I fitted a backplate to my EVA SC card as it sagged so much. It made a huge difference. Does your Amp have a backplate?

Also, what may be bad sagging to you may be perfectly acceptable to others. Do you have a measurement of the amount of sag?

Funny, I was watching the news this morning and on came an article about the new Ab Fab movie. Made me think abut sag quite a lot...
