980X crashing except in safe mode

Hi all,

I've got a bit of a head scratcher here - I have an i7 980X which is causing my PC that was previously working without a hitch to crash with MCE errors. The BIOS is up to date and all the other hardware is working. I also had a friend try it in their otherwise working PC and the same thing was happening. But curiously, if I run it in safe mode, it doesn't seem to crash the PC. Any ideas what the source of the problem could be here?

I know a user who had two of the cores die,idk if that would affect anything? maybe try with one/two cores in the bios and see if it bootsup?

if its crashing in another pc then it points to the cpu,safe mode wont use all the drivers for cpu im guessing
