got my chip up to 4.66 ghz so far which is 31 x 150 at 1.44v vcore/ 36c
my corsair dominator gt is at 1503 mhz 1.65v...... was hoping to try and hit the 5ghz mark as im running good water cooling and temps are good. does any one know where the best place to push these numbers up from these results is? im happy with what ive got and will probably put it down to 4.5ghz so i can lower the vcore but i just want to know what head room this babys got.
would it make a difference changing ram to 2000mhz dominator gt as mine are 1600mhz modules?

That's some extreme multiplier overclocking there! Get that BCLK up to go further. In fact get it up anyway and get the multiplier down if you have to :). 200+ BCLK should be easy on that mobo.

You dont need 2000MHz RAM as you're not even at 1600MHz yet. As you raise BCLK above 160 you'll just have to drop down to the x8 memory multiplier to keep your RAM under 1600MHz.

right took the multiplier back to 28 and the blck to 168 which gives me just over 4.7ghz and my ram is now at 1684mhz......the ram is maxed out at this. vcore is still 1.44v which i want to lower ...my temps are great idle at 27c - 40c across 6 cores rising to 92c on one of the cores under 100% load in prime 95...... didnt crash though and was stable but this seems high? maybe not for this chip though sure someone will tell me.

16c idle at stock? Bloody hell you must have a cold room!

i have a dual radiator setup with one laing pump.... a 360 fesser with 3 x 120mm noctua on the front and 3 x 120mm on the rear push pull setup and a 160 danger den micro radiator with 2 x 80mm noctua cooling my 5970 and my 980x only.....if you get your thermals right your machine stays happy.....my livingroom is no colder or hotter than anybody elses!

16c idle temps?

How can this be possible, most peoples rooms are around 20/22c average, so unless you're using a chiller in your loop I can't see how these temps are possible, because it would be impossible to have temps lower than your rooms ambient temps on any watercooling system, unless of course you're using some type of chiller in your loop, or your room is indeed freezing cold!!!!

Sound's like a pretty epic watercooling system, but without a chiller I still can't imagine 16c. Unless your ambient temps are stupidly low.

yep i have given you a bit of a bum stear.... the idle temps stock are 16c- 26c over 6 cores......16c being the coolest core 26c being the warmest core there is no chiller in the loop although i have done it in the past and it was quality but impratical. when i checked this morning on first switch on the central heating wasnt on for the house and they were 6c-16c over the 6 cores but the energy saving on the chip had kicked in and it was only running at 1600mhz or something so very cool. and yes im from scotland so its cold
whats the best way to post a pic in here invertigo and i will show you my water cooling set up if your interested?

Use something like tinypic, as u don't need to sign up to it to use.

About the idle temps, its believable to me to be honest, iv had my cpu down to 22c across the cores, with window open in the middle of a cold night, so its certainly possible. Especially further north then me in yorkshire. And that was without any power saving, was at speed and vcore in my sig. And yes my room was damn cold that night, but wanted to see what i could get lol.

16'c idle is doable

the reason for this is because he is using the multi to clock the cpu, this means that speedstep will take the cpu down to a low idle speed as his bclk will still be set fairly low.

totally believable on decent watercooling

my X5680 sits at around 18'c idle at stock but my overclock is 200X22 which means that my cpu frequency is still around 2.4-2.6 at idle.
this doesnt really matter because load temps is what counts.

to the OP, i wouldnt be pumping more than 1.4vcore through that 980 24/7 on standard water. just speaking from personal experience.

its believeable because its true fella.....no bull****ers hear
posted a pic of pc for yous to see my setup

Ah, forgot speedstep! Still, pretty nice setup it seems.

Water cooling is definitely something I will explore on my next build, when I have a bit more patience and cash to spend. This system I'm currently running was more of a rushed 'I want a fast computer NAO!' sort of affair :p

thanks for the advice....im running at 1.4vcore just now to get 4.4ghz stable and had it at 1.45vcore last night to get 4.71ghz stable but im only playing with it and wanted to see what it would do........i will probably run it somewere between 4-4.2ghz normaly.
