980x VS 990x

+1 definately!

That's what spare money is for isn't it :) buying things that one day you look at and think 'I must've been insane!' LOL

Hehe

I think it just boils down to new stock Vs old stock. The USD/GBP currency pair constantly fluctuates and the price in GBP goes up and down accordingly. OCUK likely still have old stock, if they change the pricing to be equal (as I believe Intel's is anyhow) then they would be digging into their own margins.

The GBP is currently advancing on the USD so theoretically any goods imported in USD should start getting cheaper....eventually.

The other thing is that each time there's something new it's a great time for retailers to add on a few more pounds or pence and reap some additional profits - they all do it, the world is a cruel place :)

If you're not overclocking then that £40 gets you a faster chip. But if you're not overclocking then why get an unlocked multi anyway, and go with a 970 instead!

If you are overclocking, even at stupid money for an extreme edition, the £40 isn't worth it as you can get ramp the chip up to the same levels.

That being said, I recall a few people (namely OC3D's Tom) saying that the 990X overclocked better - it's more receptive to BCLK overclocking than the 980X and doesn't need quite as much juice pumped through it.

Possibly anecdotal, possibly not.

gulftown is a gulftown

oc3d likely had a better sample 990 than 980

please remember when reading reviews that the reviewer has access to one cpu

i access a cross reference of cpus which makes my point a lot more valid.

all gulftowns clock the same.
