I have never reformated my hardrive since i bought it and would like to wipe it clean and install xp home,98se is ok but im getting tired of the random crashes and lack of support, what are the procedures????,i have 98se on my system now and want to wipe the drive completly clean and then install xp,i thought about dual boot but i would not know where to start,so for now i just want xp home on my system, any help would be much appreciated.

Buy the CD, stick it in your drive and reboot. If you dont get prompted to boot from CD, check your bios to make sure your boot order is correct (cd drive at the top). Then just follow the on screen instructions. Format for NTFS (quick).

If the PCs been in use since new (I'm guessing about 7 years) I would not recommend running a quick format. A "normal" format will run a disk checking utility on your hard drive to make sure it's OK before installing Windows.

Make sure you've backed up all the files you want to keep and just boot from the CD, format the drive and follow the instructions.

What spec. is your PC?
