Opinions please,

been debating the switch to a 5900x recently, I know there won't be much of a uplift in performance - I game at 1440p.
Mainly looking to stretch out my setup a couple more years until ddr5 matures before I make the switch. I already have a spare B550 board,

thoughts on this potential swtich please :)

Since you already have a board and memory, I wouldn't call it silly, especially as you may end up richer in the swap

But, would I do it? No. I doubt either CPU will be an issue for the few more years you want.

I'd sell the 9900KS while people are willing to pay way over the odds for out of date architecture, and invest it elsewhere. They seem to be selling for £300-400 used, and you could get almost any chip you wanted at very little to no extra cost. Heck you could buy a 12700K with the proceeds which is also going to be faster, but would need a board change.

5800x3d? Should be an even swap cost wise. As others have said the 9900ks is still selling strongly. I'd hazard a guess that it'll better suited for games than the 5900x too.
