9xx series vs. X2 review

pessimistic? i dont see how. I had hopes they'd d rather better than release an update that is still inferior to the x2 in just about every way to be honest.

All we hear is yohan yohan yohan. It's been a long time coming, and i for one wish thed just release to damn thing because right now they are going sideways, not forward.

While in that particular review they say the chip is hot, notice their cpu cooler's fan is only running at 1200 rpm. Pretty sure I would have load temperatures higher than that on my old 3.2Ghz northwood, if I ran my CPU fan that slowely.

But I bet its almost silent with such a slow cpu fan. And its power consumption is a lot closer to the AMD64 than the old 800 series. Netburst isnt the 'fastest' technology, but the 900's are not so bad.

Put a proper CPU cooler on it, and it will run nice and cool, especially once Speedstep is fixed on them.

Intel's 'Core' chips should be available soon, but Conroe is still a little way away, and intel wanted to release a chip that was better than the Smithfield. And the new chip is a big step in the right direction.

PC PRO reviewed it too and it was all thumbs up. I got the distinct feeling they were getting a bit confused between Yonah and Conroe though. They kept referring to Yonah as being some new all powerful architecture but really it is just a dual core Dothan with some logic tweaks, not much else. Of course, as we all know Conroe is the new architecture that's coming to the desktop around July to September.

The 920 seems like it's a very good chip. Most people have been getting 4Ghz+ (from stock 2.8) on decent air cooling. For £188 it would appear to be a very good bye compared to the comparible X2.

dunno about intel vs amd, but i buy intel because i like to consume a few kW per day for fun and enjoy the dark side of things

is like, others use to drive highly tuned 1000bhp skylines and supras for every day rides where others drive cheapo cars with bolt-on body kits and wheels as big as a cannibal's dinner plate...

seriously though, intel looks promising in 2006, besides we all knew that presler uses same architecture as a preskott but with 65nm silicone so it really makes me wonder why ppl expect to run faster than a preskot?... double cores, double the L2, 4Mb = more torque
