Anyone got any idea when we can expect to see the new series of Nvidia boards? Particularly the ultra version or whatever branding they've given the top notch one? As you can see from my sig. I'm halfway through a build but I'm waiting for the new cards so I can finally run very high crysis.

Don't hold your breath, the budget 9600gt has been put back till 3rd week February,
and as for 9800 ultra, its a 8800 processor so whatever improvement they make may not run crysis on full ......sorry

They'll just be an 8series refresh by the looks of things, nothing massively impressive and certainly not enough to run Crysis on very high.

Yeah 9 series aint new, they are still over 1 year old 8800's, Nvidia are just doing what AMD did with their 2900's, re-released em under a new name, as the 2900's are now called 3800's, the proper next ones are supposedly middle of the year sometime from both camps, really hope it is, as this is 2008 and were still getting 2006 cards released, its crap.:(

Is your sig your new spec? you bought an x38 mobo, SLI ram and now your looking at an nvidia graphics card?

Should you not go for the new 3870x2 with your set up?, It'll be quicker than anything nvidia is releasing for a few months at least.

cheers for the tip ranger... as you can tell this is my first build. What about the new 9800GX2 I heard about... wouldn't one of those be quicker?

Also, I only have 600 Watts to play with... dual cards will most likely kill it, particularly if I overclock the E8400...

9800GX2 doesn't look all that great at the moment.

I'm running an overclocked E2140 and 2 overclocked 3870's on a 620w supply and it's coping fine and with the 3870X2's being 2 gpus on a single pcb I wouldn't have thought they'd need massive power to run.

I dunno. A lot of people (myself included) will seriously consider this card. If I can get similar/slightly better performance than my current 8800GTX, with the added benefit of HDMI and Optical out then I'll be happy to spend a few hundred quid on it to use for a year or so.

I'd reckon a quality 600w psu would handle an oc'd E8400 and a 3870x2, Hopefully you wouldnt have to wait too long either as they are launched Monday. If you go for the 3870x2 it leaves you future upgradablity as you could buy another and crossfire them. You would need a new psu at that point though.
