Here is the challange. Yet another mate of mine is on a very tight budget for a base unit system. Whats the best spec you can do for £300? He will only be using the computer for word processing so power isnt so much of a problem.

Its just the base unit he needs. He already has an oldish Dell flat screen along with keyboard, mouse and speakers. Preferably go for the new stuff. Max price i think he said he could go was £350 I think.

well ive speced one in here but the money for it could be used to better somthing else

A bit over budget, make hdd a bit smalller and its on budget below 350.
If he wants 300 really max get 1 gb of ram instead of 2.
Video on-board if you wounder where that is...

Edit: meh paul 64 beat me.

Any of these 2 specs are fine, pauls has more processing power and better graphics, while mine has more ram and a lot more storage...

Here is a good word processing / internet base unit:

Abit NF-M2S Micro ATX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - £41.11

The motherboard has built in Nvidia 6200 which means it will play games (a few years old :)) a bit too.
