A 3D IPS monitor finally ?

I think Baddass should edit that title like he did last time Mitsubishi gave somebody a glimmer of false hope. ;) It isn't so much the 3D support people are looking for (well some people might be!), it's the 120Hz super smooth experience which current IPS technology just can't provide. The Mitsubishi is probably no different I'm afraid.

its an interesting one. It is a 3D IPS monitor, so the title is correct. However it doesnt support 120Hz as this is using LG.Displays FPR technology instead:

I did realise the title was correct and was going to edit my post accordingly. I can just imagine a lot of people viewing this thread and thinking 3D= 120Hz= super responsive and then being disappointed. ;) Still an interesting development nonetheless and I like how you have covered the contention between the competing 3D technologies in your article. I wonder though - will they restrict it to the Asian market as availability of Mitsubishi monitors is a bit iffy over here. I didn't want to report on this one on my website in case it never reaches our shores - but hey you've got such a nice article going I must just drop in a sneaky link to it somewhere. ;)

I doubt we will see this particular monitor but there will be plenty more using this FPR 3D support. Including the new D41P and D42P models from LG which you know about already :)

Ah yes. And I'm sure it's only a matter of time before LG expands upon this. Incidentally that might be a nice place for me to mention your article as it is in-context without being specifically about the Mitsubishi. I am very much hoping that they can sort out the minimum viewing distance issue. I believe you are supposed to sit at least 1.5 meters back from the screen for it to be effective but it might vary from person to person and I haven't tried this kind of technology on a monitor before. Only a TV and I was a fair distance back when I tested and I'm sure it was an older iteration of the technology.

I am fairly confident that they won't be. They are designed to be a relatively cheap with an integrated passive 3D solution (using an FPR technique explored in this article). Adding 120Hz capability is unnecessary for these monitors and would add additional and unattractive cost to the end-product (more here). It hasn't been openly stated as far as I am aware but in my informed opinion they are very unlikely to offer true 120Hz output.

I hope it will come out over here,
I feel sure it won't. Mitsubishi have been selling monitors in Japan/Asia for years, never a hint of possible sales in Europe (or USA) On the upside, I doubt Mitsubishi will be using the panel exclusively, so an alternative will appear for us eventually.

You could always use a buying service if you are desperate to get this specifically.
