ok I have this ati 4870 1gb here & want to know how much if any improvement will this give and is it worth it.

current system

amd x2 4400 (not oc'd)
2gb ram ddr1
asus a8nsli-se 939 mobo
500 watt ocz psu
current gfx card 8800gt 512
wd 320gb sata hd

thanks in advance

To be honest, not a whole lot. My friend was running a very similar system (s939 x2 4400+, 2gb ram) with an 8800gtx and he found he was almost always CPU bound. As that chip doesn't overclock well at all, you may need to thing about a new system for extra performance.

from a 8800gt there won't be much difference, as indeed the cpu especially not overclocked will hold you back.
I'd invest in a b-grade p35 mobo and an e5200, should be around £100.

Holy crap I was just about to post the exact same question. I'm running the SAME ram/CPU/mobo, but with an ATI 1950 XTX and was wondering what improvement a 4870 would make.

Did wonder if it's a bit "lipstick on a pig" ...
