I've looked all over the internet in regards to this but unfortunately had no joy.

I've got a PC that comes with SPDIF that is connected to my AV reciever (STR-DE698) and I put in a DVD and open it with VLC media player, although on the Audio section it allows me to choose A/52 over spdif .The multi channel decoding light comes on my amp although the audio is very choppy and completely unlistenable.

Yet when I use the same DVD and load it in media player classic home cinema and select the appropriate SPDIF settings it plays the DVD fine and in dolby digital, the multi channel decoding light appears & dolby digital 3/2/1 scrolls across my amp and all is well. Sounds perfect.

Yet doesnt in VLC no matter what settings I try, I have also looked into the device settings on my audio mixer on my PC and have tried it in 44.1 & 48khz with no difference what so ever. Currently it is set onto 48khz and all dvds work fine in media player classic home cinema.

Same thing applies to some THX audio samples in .vob file formats. In VLC it doesnt decode it in dolby and sounds like stereo. Yet chuck it into M.P.C.H.C and decoding light appears, dolby digital 3/2/1 scrolls across the amp and you hear things flying all over the place.

Any help would be much appriciated

Thanks

Try going into:

Tools > Preferences > Audio. Then change the Output to "Win32 WaveOut"

Not certain if you have the same problem I did, but it sounds similar and this is what solved it for me.

Hope it works for you.

what Wang said, also, dont just change the setting and press play, everytime I re-install VLC and change that setting it takes me closing VLC and re-opening it for the change to work :)

I tried all of the above and still the same thing. In the end what I have decided to do is use Arcsoft Total Media Theatre instead. Plays DTS movies brilliantly very impressed. VLC just didnt seem to do it.
Even after downloading a file simply called DTS Decoder to no success.

O well, least it works though

Thanks for your advise though
