My system is : -
opteron 165
4 x 512 geil ddr (2 x 512 @ cas 2, 2 x 512 @ cas 2.5)
dfi ultra-d mobo
ati x1800xt
I have been able to overclock the chip to 2.1ghz but my system seems to freeze, the cursor freezes and I need to reboot. I'm using systool to o/c the cpu while constantly stress testing i'm upping the fsb by 2-4 clicks at a time and sometimes only waiting 20 seconds inbetween each increment. Is this too fast?
I'm concerned that my ram will let me down, does it matter if 2 sets are different to the other 2 sets?
Another thing is I'm using the stock fan that came with the opteron and I also kept the stock cooling paste on the bottom (I didn't wipe it off and put arctic silver on) will this affect it much?
I have read the beginners overclocking sticky but I really don't get what you need to do to the ram. As I increase the fsb obviously it automatically increases the memory clock, but I don't know what kind of limit the ram will have and I don't know what to do with the timings. The memory tab in systool is very confusing and I'm unsure if I'm looking for lower or higher numbers (is cas 2 better than cas 2.5?)
