Hey all, very dull i know!

My Gran would like to be able to print basic documents /emails from her iPad with ease.

Is there a go to simplistic affordable printer that anyone could recommend ? £40-50ish maybe?

Thanks muchly

For my mums 70th birthday last week. I got her a basic Brother black and white laser printer, she can print from her iPhone, iPad and laptop.

They are abit more than £50 but worth is because the ink will last for ages and the printer is easily detected by the devices.

Agree with the other comments. We have a Brother HL-2375DW. We only print black and white but it’s a laser printer so uses toner, instead of money pit scam that is inkjet.

A laser jet is the way to go, as the ink doesn't dry out. I bought a basic Brother laserjet years ago. I would say is it does the job, but the print quality isn't great, it looks a little faded. Therefore, personally I would be prepared to spend more money to get better quality.

The £40 printers aren't cheap, because the ink replacement is expensive.

Also, beware ink jets, because if not used all the time, ink dries in the nozzles and they get blocked, so they aren't reliable for a non-tech person.

Probably needs a new toner. Take the cartridge out and shake it from side to side, then insert and try printing again. If that has made a difference then it’s new toner time!

Failing the above, check your print quality settings within the driver as it may be set for an eco mode which uses less toner, but the print is lighter.

Just got a basic Brother B&W laser for this. There’s a couple of apps but only the older one worked for me. It’s a basic and not totally intuitive app. However it works and was about £70.
