Ok both laptops are for 499.

Acer Aspire Ethos 5943G

Worse Processor:

Intel® Core™ i5-460M Dual Core (2.53GHz, 3MB Cache, with Intel Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz)

Better Graphics Card:

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 with 1GB Dedicated RAM

Lenovo IdeaPad Z570

This laptop has a better processor, but worse graphics card.

Better Processor:

Intel® Core™ i5-2410M Dual Core (2.3GHz, Intel Sandy Bridge Architecture, 3MB Cache, Intel Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz)

Worse Graphics card:

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 520M with 1GB DDR Dedicated Memory

The laptop will be used for gaming, the main game being World of Warcraft.
Now do i go for the one with the better processor, or the better graphics card?

The 5650 is dated and the GT520M is relatively slow especially if you want something a little future proof.

I don't know what better options there are though but you should be able to do better for £499 or even try to increase your budget to make sure you get something a little more future proof.

The Lenovo IdeaPad is a much much better computer in terms of build quality, battery life, reliability and styling. The lenovo is cheaper too and has more memory @ £449

Part Number: M555EUK

Stock Code: 6617177

Intel® Core™ i3-2310M Dual Core Processor, 15.6" HD Screen, Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64-bit, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 640GB HDD, DVD Rewriter, Dedicated GT520M Graphics, M555EUK

Both of those graphics cards are average and dated now but, if you want to do much gaming the the 5650 is a quicker card than the 520. However in this context the Lenovo to me is a better buy.

If you want a gaming machine, neither are suitable, if you want a good quality laptop that can play games I would always take Lenovo over Acer.

for £500 you do have quite a few other options though.

My money will be on a new Dell XPS L502, system code N00X5M01 and with the 15% off code NWTH9RQLVTXNWT at the moment it is sub £500.

This is an i5 with Nvidia GT525. The only downside is this system has 2GB memory but you can upgrade yourself to 6GB for £20 if you buy the ram from elsewhere (not dell).

Otherwise, take a look on the dell outlet.

i have searched for the laptop, it has good specs but them coupons don't work, so the dell xps L502 will be 650 pound which is over my budget of 500.

People are mentioning that i can get better value for 500 than the 2 laptops i have stated, but i can't find any.

I saw the rest of the spec for the Acer, it's excellent, and it's a great price considering the RRP.

I also know what you mean about not being able to find anything else. I was in the same boat as you when I was looking for a laptop and I eventually came to the conclusion that a Dell outlet L702x was worth the hassle because otherwise I would have to spend around 1K to buy a similar spec from another manufacturer.

The 5650 while being dated is still capable so it might be your best option besides going for a Dell XPS with a GT525 or better for a similar price.

I just bought a Vostro 3550 off the Dell outlet for £480, its an i7-2620M 2.7GHz, 6GB RAM, 750GB 7200RPM HD, ATI HD6630M, there were plenty of others on there too! :)

On the Dell Outlet I have the following in my basket:

It's a very nice system for £534.77 delivered and only a few quid over your budget and you get a nice quad core CPU and good graphics.

I found out a bit more and it looks like a recent return (shipped 12/10/2011) so most likely someone returned it under the DSR.

It doesn't appear to be aged outlet stock either (shipped 18/09/2011).

Yeah I wish I'd known about it too when I was buying my outlet laptops although fortunately for me I still managed to find good laptops without it. The service tag of each item in your basket is embedded in the HTML and then you can look up the system details on the Dell website using the service tag. Not all systems will have the ship date and/or original build specification.
