A BF2, Punkbuster problem

Hi, a clanmate of mine has just been having some serious BF2 problems.
Below is how he explained it on our clan forum

a while ago I got kicked from some servers because I was running an old punkbuster version. Seems it didn't auto update itself. Monkey showed me a programm with which you can update punkbuster. Ever since I installed and updated my pb version, I get screenlagg on every server I play. Even when my ping is around 16 I still get lagg and it's unplayable.

Now I also get kicked from server with the message that the server was unable to communicate with the pub exe file.

HELP! What do I do, I thought it was a virus or something like it causing lagg, but I've cleaned my pc and still it won't work properly as it did before

He's on XP and has cleared his cache. Does anyone have some ideas for the frustrated guy? Thanks

Has he installed the latest patch, think its 1.41 about 500mb.

could try updating punk buster manually, using the program in the above link.
had a similair problem and it fixed it for me.

He's patched up fully and used pbupdate and manually updating was what started it off. It's as if as soon as he got a new version of punkbuster it messed everything up

Seems to be an issue for a few people at the moment, including myself. Not so much the lag but the disconnects. Must just be a bad PB update. All I'd suggest is keep doing the manual update each time before playing until they roll out an update with out the issue.

Get someone with a working, up to date PB install to copy their PB folder and send it to your mate. Have him replace his with theirs and he'll be sorted.
