Ok been looking for somewhere to add a review of my purchase so thought best here (correct me if in wrong place).

Ok so the last couple of weeks I’ve been looking to buy a new gaming laptop, I’ve been using and old HP system which doesn’t quite cut the mustard these days.

So ive been looking around a few sites, mainly the PCS sales page when i was close to buying but not so happy about the lead times. I then came across OCUK and the deals drew me closer. I bit the bullet and ordered a Clevo P170EM with 7970M, I7 3630QM, 8GB RAM and Samsung 840 SSD drive.
£1200 or thereabouts.

I ordered on Tuesday evening and within an hour i realised Id ordered the wrong drive so phoned OC first thing the next morning to change in which they were happy to do so. So not expecting any news for a few days (i went fro free 3-5 days delivery) i was absolutely chuffed to see a mail within two hours of changing my order that it had shipped! True to their word my shiny new laptop arrived within the hour slot DPD sent to me! So far, so freekingly awesome good! :D

The box it arrived in was LOL overkill but when you think about it im getting seriously over protection for my new toy for new extra cost so cant grumble. I hurriedly got to work opening my new baby (is it xmas already!) to find everything was in working order and all things within the box that i ordered.. the laptop, the manual and the drivers.

As i was a little worried they hadn’t changed my drive (as from the time i changed the disk to shipment was only like two hours) I decided to open the back panels up to check what was inside and also install additional memory and an extra hard drive. Fears were quashed straight away, there was my lovely little Samsung SSD all sitting nice and snug under my optical drive.

Everything installed, now lets take a closer look at the build. The outside is well built and looks good but looks like its going to be a serious fingerprint magnet (i can live with!). Its solid and the screen looks huge compared to my old 14", everything is rosy so far. So time to boot up and install windows... all good, no loud sounds, fans seem quiet etc. Windows installed in next to no time with the new SSD drive.

Rather than install the drivers from the CD I thought Id go direct to Clevo site and get the latest drivers barring the WLAN as took that from the disk so i could access the web to get the latest. Another thing that was worrying me was the display drivers, i heard some horror stories about getting the AMD to switch from the intel HD when it needed to do so, so did a bit of research first. Installed all other drivers first, rebooted, then intel, rebooted, then the latest 13.2(7) beta drivers, rebooted. Everything working hunky dory, first time in my life a new PC build has gone to plan without a hiccup. The display looks awesome, full HD, bright and colours really stick out. Blacks look great too which is good.

So moving on to what i got this bad boy for.. gaming! Installed Tomb Raider, ramped everything up to max (left TresssFX off) and tried the benchmark. Avg 50FPS... and running really smooth. Decided to play the game for a couple of hours to really give the system a good working over and see how hot everything gets. After the stress test I could really feel the laptop getting hot on my right leg so checked the temps and they were around 65C which isn’t too bad but not sure my leg can take much more so ordered a belkin laptop pad stand which has some great reviews and has enough too to disburse the heat, should knock off a few centigrade.

So all in all I’m absolutely delighted with my new system and especially with OCUK who have provided a great service. I will definatly ordered from them again when it comes to my upgrade (a few years yet though!)

10/10 for service, product and CS. Thank you
