Hi :)

I've just been looking on the halfords website, Dont really know much about bikes. Just kept refining the search criteria :D

£0-£500 - Full Suspension - Aluminium Frame

It gave me these 3 choices as a result

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchCmd?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&categoryId=165499&langId=-1&action=listrefine&constraints=teq||Gender||Mens||fra||Price||0.0||500.0||teq||Suspension||Full||teq||Frame+Material||Aluminium||sor||Price||1

Hope that link works. 3 Apollo branded bikes at £210.

What are your thoughts? Good bikes? Is there a better bike for price?

Which frame should I go for, I'm 5ft 10, if that helps atall :p

I'm honestly clueless :o Other than knowing a full suspension and aluminium are the good choices :p

I'm glad I asked now, rather than going out and buying one.

I do like the look of that Rockhopper 2012, Although £550 is a little more than I was thinking of paying. I do need one though, going to be using it 4 days a week, 80 minute round trip.(This all depends on my getting a new job) Plus i have a friend who goes offroad biking quite a lot, and I wouldnt mind joining him.

Think I may have to use my brothers old bike till I save up a few more wageslips :p

Can't see the Canyon being much fun for a commute though :p

"a bike for offroad fun" needs to be expanded upon really wannabedamned, it can mean a lot of different things.

I had plenty of fun commuting on my Specialized Enduro, and now on my Ragley Blue Pig.. Those curbs aren't going to jump themselves! :p

Well, that's the thing. 80 minute commute says the better part of 10 miles each way which spells road bike. 80 miles a week on road vs how much off road in a week? Unless you're really happy to ride a mountain bike on road that much then you should be looking at a cyclocross or a hybrid.

I just got in after riding to Glasgow, around Kelvingrove park and then back to Hamilton again on my old rockhopper. I think it took an extra 10 minutes but I went a way that was off main roads so I'm not sure how much slower I actually was.

Yes it wasn't as fast as the road bike but at the same time if you don't know how fast a road bike can be is it that bad?

Spoilt for choice :D

Just having a look through them all. I did like the look of the rockhopper initially, and so I may end up picking one up, unless anyone has anything dead against it?

My offroad stuff will literally be dirty tracks, country paths, wooded areas and farm land. Nothing overly adventurous, although considering how excited I am about this, I could venture out further :p

As for speed, I'll never be one of those people who ride flatout at the side of the road, I just don't trust myself... :o

Trouble is I've seen many people who have said the same, with intentions of using it for what it was designed for. They commute everyday on a mountain bike with slick tyres, but never take it off-road, thus negating the need for a mountain bike, which is nowhere near as efficient on the road.
