Hi All I just thought i,d share this bit of info about my ADSL connection, i was told by a good source that the only wires needed in the B.T phone sockets was 2 & 5 , so i looked inside all mine ( 2 ) and 3 was connected ,so i took 3 out of each socket ,and noticed a great improvement in my ADSL ,my downstream attenuation of 36 is now seeing a connection speed of the full 8128, i was only getting 6752 before . take a look at this

No idea if its improved my attenuation as my router doesnt show this information (stupid belkin thing), but my line sync speed went from 3680 to 5824 Kbps when I've just done this.

I did the master socket, the extention that comes upstairs to the office, socket in the master bedroom.

et volia!

*scuttles off around the house with a screwdriver*

Lol was exactly what I did as well. Found the nearest small screwdriver and proceeded to yank out some cables!

I'd take their advice of testing your modem in the test socket first just to see if it will make any difference before you start yanking.

Well, after some scary encounters with a couple of critters behind my desk, I got around all the extensions in the house. About 3 of them in total, my line was syncing at 6500 and is now running at 8000!

nice one, I unscrewed my master socket (only one in the house) and wire 3 was connected, pull the little bugger out and screwed it back up.

Since joining o2 my router has showed 11mbs, after doing the quick change it now shows 15mbs :)

So if I leave my router plugged into the test socket 24/7 then theres no need to start unplugging wires?

None at all, since the wires that *could* affect your broadband signal will be completely removed from the circuit. Although, if you have extension sockets they'll be disabled also since they're wired into the faceplate

Yeah, I dont have any extensions... dont ever really use a phone :) hehe its just there for adsl.

Just wanted to clarify! ta

the only cables i have in my master socket goes into A & B. The part that comes out of the master socket has no cables coming out of it at all.

when i put it all back together my connection actually dropped by 2mb from 5mb to 3mb??

Did this and went from syncing at 4000 to 8000!

Done this before at the rents house, so why didn't I think of doing it here sooner :P
