I've only ever had mountain bikes. Nothing serious. Never done any 'proper' cycling but having brought my old bike (Gary Fisher Gitch Gumee) back to life in lockdown I often do a nice easy 1.5hr ride down to the Thames, along the Thames path (fighting with pedestrians) and back. It's a nice easy circuit that gets me out of the house on a nice day. So I've been dabbling with the idea of getting a road bike. Not to commute - I live in London and basically don't want to die :p But I do see a local chap who regularly cycles down to Surrey from where we are (it's about 20 miles down to Box Hill for example) and it just looks lovely. I reckon 30mins riding and I'd be out of London proper and it might be very nice. Anyway I digress...

There's a chap on my local FB group selling a Ammaco Velocity road bike for £70 (57cm frame, I'm 5'9). No replies in a few days, unless he's sold it elsewhere I could make a cheeky offer. It looks in ok nick apart from the tyres look quite slick!

Do you think it's worth a punt for someone dabbling with the idea of road cycling? :)

Never heard of the bike but road bikes tyres are meant to be slick, they dont really have any tread on them as they are so narrow they dont need tread to displace water. Also I think a 57cm might be a bit large for someone 5'9?
Thanks. I think “worn” might have been a better descriptor! Yeah he posted that it was suitable for 5’8 to 6’10 but actually most websites say 57cm is for 5’9 minimum. Which I think is what I am so hmm. I might let this one slide, too much other stuff going on and shouldn’t really be spending that money now!

lol just a bit! I think if I were to buy new I might invest in a gravel bike instead of purely a road bike. I still have grand plans of buying a car and being able to escape out of London into trails... er.. somewhere :p

I don't think you need to worry too much, there's always going to be bikes around this budget to ensure you don't need to snatch at a specific one :)
Ok thanks. I'll leave it for now. Due to house renovations I don't really have anywhere to store it and likelihood being it'll just get in the way until winter in which case I won't want to begin my journey of road cycling!
