I borrowed my dad's copy of the above book a few weeks ago as it's something I've always wanted to read. However, it's this edition: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brief-Histo...5211/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1306833939&sr=8-1

Being now 15 years old, I'm worried that some of the content of this edition may be outdated (although it still being on sale on Amazon makes me think perhaps not).

Anyway, does anyone know if it is outdated and/or what the best edition is. I've noticed there's a few 'illustrated' ones about: are they worth it?

There was a newer edition with a chapter on wormholes, but I don't think it corrects the other stuff. As I recall that was the 10 year anniversary edition. Have there been newer editions since then?

The illustrated versions may be of help, as some of it is a bit tricky to visualise. Mind you, I'm not sure how much help illustrations can be with multi-dimensional stuff!

Yeah, the illustrations and charts in my edition do little to enhance my visualisations of the copy. If anything a chart with space on the z axis and time on the y axis just complicates things more :p.
