I'm just playing around with the idea of getting a new rig and taking my current one to work (the joys of working in IT).

I've come up with this so far. I'm going to nick the 970 out of my current rig for now, so don't fret too much about the missing card, but if anyone could suggest a way to get a decent performance without spending around a grand that'd be ideal :D

So yeah, if there's any way to bring the cost down while keeping a good level of performance, that'd be lovely :)

I'm currently gaming on a utrawide 1440 monitor so it requires a bit of punch.

for argument's sake, where would you skimp?

and if i was to replace the 970, what would you recommend?

cheers guys!

is there a noticeable difference between the gaming 3 and 7 motherboards that would be worth the extra money?

also guessing that a 1070 is pretty much where i need to be looking with regards to GPU?

yeah, i just don't know whether i can afford to stick the extra on top for a 1080. is there a specific model of 1070/80 that's ahead of the others? much like the MSI 970 that was a complete winner (until people found out about the 3.5GB RAM thing :D)

also, genuinely interested about the differences in the mobos, just in case i'd be better saving or spending :)

thanks for your answers so far guys. i know how annoying it must be for a bloke to just keep asking question upon question.

i've come to this conclusion this morning for a possible purchase today.

thoughts?

i'm going to use the SSD from my current build to save a bit of dollar.

is there a point to go mSATA or m2 at this time?

As a 1070 gaming X owner, I don't think its worth the £50 premium over the Armour version, unless you are buying for looks only :) I only went with the Gaming X as the 1070 had only just been released an this was the only one other than Founder Editions (which I also tried and it was too loud) that I could get my hands on.

not worth the premium for the higher clocks though?

armour version it is then! well, i guess unless anyone can give me a reason to get m2 or mSATA, i'll be buying it shortly!

EXCITE.

completely didn't look at the speed of the drive :D cheers!

i think with the changes, i've got my build.

thank you guys. :)
