Just finished building and configuring a new build for a friend and figured I might aswell share some pics + specs :D

i7 920 D0 (currently at stock, VID tbc) under Prolimatech Megahelems with Scythe Kaza-Juni fan.
Asus P6T SE
3x2GB Patriot Viper DDR3 1600MHz
XFX 5850
Corsair TX750W
Samsung F3 500GB
Coolermaster HAF 922

Quality of pics is kinda crummy, my SLR is still being repaired

Nice and event free build - bit of panic at the end when i flicked the PSU off but easily fixed :D

I was quite pleasantly surprised with this case, theres tonnes of room on the inside for the size of it - easy to get cables in a sensible place and airflow is solid.
Not a big fan of the looks but it is much nicer in person than in any pictures Ive seen.

Seems like hes got a decent chip too - 1.208V VID
idle : 31 - 28 - 30 - 25
load: 51 - 49 - 49 - 45
Should overclock nicely ;)

Gonna run 3Dmark Vantage to see how this 5850 fairs.

EDIT:
3DMARK SCORE
P14699

GPU SCORE - - - - - - - - CPU SCORE
13947 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 17538

I have forgotten what my other systems get, which makes this result somewhat meaningless to me atm. Im going to go test the other systems available to me now for a bit of comparison.

Ive just run 3DMark Vantage on 4 different systems and got some pretty confusing results.

My rig:
i7 920 D0 @ 3.8GHz
6GB DDR3
9800GX2

That makes some sense to me, final score is heavily weighted by the GPU score.

My secondary:
PII B50 X4 @ 3.1GHz
4GB DDR3
XFX 5770

Housemates rig:

Athlon X2 7750 @ 2.91GHz
2GB DDR2
GTX260

Howcome that Athlon gets 2.5x an quad at 3.1GHz, and 10K more than an i7 920 at stock?

Ah well, will be interesting seeing the increase overclocking gives.

I would say becasue it perfers CPUs with higher clock speeds :) hence why the AMD gets higher

If you check out the specs, the 3.1GHz quad AMD phenom II is beat by the 2.9GHz dual Athlon, by a fairly large margin. Just raw speed cant explain that.

Did you have Physx on ;)

Yeah all settings left at default so comparisons can be made, not just with my own results.

yeah, makes me feel like futurmark benchmarks mean even less now =[
ah well, will give some way of measuring the improvement of overclocking.

Cheers RJC.

Started overclocking - looking good so far.

Clocking nicely, not had to touch voltages yet.
Will update again later.

3.8GHz was happy after 45mins of OCCT and a run of 3Dmark vantage. 5mins into 4GHz still at 1.26V.

Yeah i think Ive lucked out on i7s so far. Cant remmember my voltage - 1.235 according to CPU-Z.

My mates has crashed after 15mins of 4GHz, tweaking the settings now.

Got 3.9GHz an hour OCCT stable.
gonna check the 3DMark score then work on 4GHz.

EDIT: Gettin closer, 40mins before crash. Temps and voltages are all pretty decent though.

And I managed 4GHz, only tested with one hour of OCCT and a run of 3DMark.
idle: 39 - 37 - 40 - 34
load: 68 - 66 - 66 - 62

Hyper-threading and speed step are on.
Vcore: 1.275V
QPI: 1.25V
DRAM: 1.64V
BCLK: 191MHz

Gonna get in touch with my mate see if he wants me to go further, if not Ill run some longer stress tests.
