Hello all, my friend has been waiting for a while for a new build. Skylake has dropped and hes looking to spend soon.

He has a healthy budget for 1k maybe abit more. minus the gpu he has a 970 currently and for 1080p thats good enough i would have thought.

Any recommendations ? I am hearing not to good things about skylake either so is the 5820k a better option ?

Thanks to all that reply.

Skylake is now looking like evolution rather than revolution to me - i.e some minor improvements over Haswell is some areas, the biggest of which seems to be when the iGPUs are compared.

What is he mostly using the PC for?

He plays a lot of games and was moaning about it too me about 2 months ago. I said hold off for now as skylake is and could be worth it.

Games is the number 1 reason for the upgrade.

To be honest I don't think you'll do badly with either providing it's paired with a thumping great GPU but if he has any aspirations for multi-GPU at all then probably Haswell-E is the way to go.

Aye thought as much, 5820k seems just that bit more with it being 6 core. He will give the green light soon for sure so i can build it for him ha.

Some times i just like to check.
