Hello there.

I'm looking for a cheap and cheerful gfx card, but with as much "bang for my buck" as possible.

Basically, it has to be ATI and a HDMI connection would be lovely.

I don't mind if the card is like 1 year or so old too (as long as it was considered pretty decent back in its day)

So does anyone know of such a card ? :D

I guess our definition of "pretty decent" must differ :)

I remember.....ummm.... I think I got a 3850 for about 60 quid around 2 and a half years ago. That was plenty powerful. Surely I can get something a little newer and just as (if not more) beefy for a similar price?

4850/4870 second hand at that price and leaning more towards 4850.

You should check into the members market and see what's there ;).

Ahhhhh cool !!
Do they come with a HDMI connector ?
(That's not a 100% deal breaker if not)

Also not sure I can buy from MM if you check my location ;)

I don't believe the 4850 comes with a HDMI socket, however if you use an "ATI" DVI to HDMI adapter you can do proper audio pass-through via HDMI.

As mentioned above, for £50 you can't really buy any new decent gaming cards - this is as fast as you get. However the 2nd hand market will allow you to make this money go much further (4850 and 4870 are definitely the ones to look for - also the 5750 is worth a look). If you will also consider Nvidia cards, then the 8800GT, 8800GTX, 9800GT, GTS 250 and GTX 260 are worth a look. These can all do HDMI with an adapter, though you also need to connect a 2pin S/PDIF cable between the card and motherboard to make it work.

Thanx dudes !!

I guess I'll have a look and see what kind of 4850/4870 deals I can find.
(Maybe even 4830?)

Cheers
