Ok i am getting a card in jan was thinking the 4870x2 but i was wondering would having 2 4850x2 in crossfire be better for me than just the one 4870x2
like would i need to upgrade my card sooner if i had the 4870x2 as apossed to the dual 4850x2 oh and would it fit lol and would my psu be ok for it

my set up is a 24 inch LCD (main monitor) a 19 inch LCD
i have a corsair 620w modular
4gGB(4x1GB)
8800gts (for now)
AND A E8500 dual core
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 rev 2.0
in a NZXT Lexa Blackline

In my opinion the 4850x2 is overpriced. You can get a pair of 4850's for considerably less. You certainly don't need a pair of them for a 24" monitor. You could probably get away with a 1Gb 4870. As you have a P35 board the second card would be severely restricted by the 4x pci-e slot anyway. You have a pair of physical pci-e 16x lanes but electrically they only run at 16x and 4x.

i understand what you are saying at somepoint then i will upgrade my mobo any good low cost sudgestions for me?
as for the card yeh i could get away with a 1GB 4870 but i am looking to get the best top end card setup i can afford as i normally only have a big lump of cash once a year and i would rather my card lasted a couple of years at least.
and is there no way to make both slots run at 16x?

On the P35 there is no way of making it at dual 16x, you will need a X38 or X48.
The performance difference is I think from memory is around 5% - hopefully someone can confirm.

Have you looked at the Nvidia 280 card.

well i have just read on my custom pc mag that the 4870x2 is the best card on the marke just now so i will prolly just go with that.
any sudgestions on a good mobo to go with at some point i will do crossfire with 2x 4870x2
and i will get a bigger monitor also but that wont be for a while.
:)

Simply get the best you can afford. An X48 mobo would do you fine, there isn't as much choice yet for the X58 mobos range, so an X38 or X48 would be great. Your cpu and ram are good so you'll have a nice high end system. I'd go for the X48 atm or wait a little longer and splash out on something better than mine ;)
