A few days back, my sys started making a clicking sound. Until this boot it stopped when the OS booted, now it is still doing it but, is slower now then it was at boot. Is there a simple way to know if it is a fan or a my HDD?

Sounds to me like the click of death, have a listen to HDD with the click of death on youtube and see if its the same. If it is you will need a new HDD as soon as possible.

It sounds like I am tapping my fingernail on metal, could a fan be that loud??
If a fan has got something in its bearing or the shroud has warped and is making contact it'll be very noisy. Though the HDD is another possibility as Ethermaster mentions.

Have you opened the case and looked for where the sound is coming from? A cardboard toilet roll tube is a common tool when trying to pinpoint where a sound comes from within an open case.

Running something HDD intensive won't help...

Make sure you haven't got something like a torrent program or anti-virus thrashing your disk at startup. If it's clicking you'll need a new disk, it's a prelude to mechanical failure on the drive and you should take it as a blessing that it chose to inform you loudly rather than fail silently :p.

I found a plastic paint brush to stick in and stop the fans Sugo SG01 only comes with 1 fan right? Anyway unless it is the CPU fan or GPU (not sure where there is not enough light to see in) it is the HDD. is there anyway I can completely stop the HDD to see if it is that?

Take the sata power power cable out of the hdd and start the system, if the noise is still there its not the HDD, if plugging the hdd back in and the noise returns its new disk time and to start making backups of everything.

I will try later (no way to take case off now) thanks.

Good news, it stopped, bad new, it did it before the case got opened. I know it was a fan, cause it was louder & sounded like a fan. No idea which fan it was though. Maybe it was the PSU fan, this PSU is 6 years old.

isolate the sound - Roll up a magazine and put it to your ear and go hunting rabbits.

Post warning edit: Hey! I was being playful not mean. Bah! - Lost in translation.
