A couple of issues... + Spec me a mobo please.

Spec:
2.2ghz e2200 @ stock / 3.2ghz
4gb pc6400 OCZ
IP35-e Mobo
BFG OC 8800 GT
Old seagate 160gb hdd

Ok the first problem is that my pc freezes, like what evers currently on screen stops moving, sound is repeated like a screeching sound and i can't type / move cursor etc. Have to turn it off to get it to work again. This happens when on stock and oc'd.

The problem mainly occurs when browsing the web, originally it started happening when i was browsing using firefox and download using IDM at the same time. It would get about 3-4 minutes it the download and freeze up.

I then started using opera and it didn't freeze up for a while so though maybe a very buggy combination of ff3 and idm had caused the problem but it'll freeze up even when using opera now. When just using IDM it freezes up aswell.

This wasn't too much of problem as the rig still worked in games, so i could still get my nightly fix of counter strike. but recently it has been freezing up in counter strike. so i've now decided to do something about it ..

To cut a long story short i've tried the following:

Flash the mobo bios to the latest one.
Re-installed windows.
re-installed drivers serveral times.
Run mem test, a lot.
Orthos, a lot
(neither of the above two cause the pc to freeze)
Removed all of the ram sticks and used each individually till it froze. which it did.

I think its a mobo problem, originaly when i bought the pc i had to flash the bios to get it to work properly. Can't remmeber the original problem...but this fixed it.

The second issue i have i have a samy spinpoint, which when connected to this pc will either not be detected at boot, or disapear in windows after writing or reading from it for 5-6 minutes. It will work better in some sata slots on the mobo than others and the other hdd i have is always detected.
i'm currently using it in another pc with windows on it and its fine so :/

err so any ideas >? any help is much appreciated.

Sorry for poor grammer / spelling.

I swear it's a memory problem :S.

Does it freeze randomly or at some selective times ( when using x software for y amount of time).

Freezing screen with sound also sounds like a GPU issue, can you run some artifact scanning and check temps on it ?

Can you borrow a stick of ram to test it with it?

Run check disk, reset, defragment the drive after.

Post temps/voltages.

I'd say..well it was selective, like surfing for an hour or so or downloading a lot for 5 - 10 min..

now however its random.

i'll get some moar ram to test with. But its hard to belive all 4 sticks a knackered ?

I'll run check disk and leaving it defragging tonigh .. whether or it will actually get all the way through or not :/

Now that you mention the gfx card ..i did have some trouble with it back along, had like ..pixel snow accross the screen when playing games...put it down to getting too hot cause it wouldn't happen when my fans where on full.

Woops ..shoulda editied the other post :/

Mmmm an E2200 with 1.275vid, nice.

Anyways, try running it at stock speeds with +0,1v on northbridge (GCMH), ram at 2.1v and
FSB +0,1v. Put the CPU on 1.35v as well. Just increase the voltages, leave all the speeds at stock.

And once again please do some artifact scanning on GPU.

Install speed fan and post the screen of the main window with all the volts as well.

Moreover, you've said that neither memtest or orthos crashed your PC, so you mean it doesnt freeze when you run those ? ;). Funny stuff :).

-----
One more thing, can you try running PC without network card in it and without any internet/network connection at all ?
Do you have any additional usb stuff connected to it ? mp3 player/ usb camera / whatever ?

Well did you do all the stuff I asked you for ? running it without any additonal stuff connected ?

Does it still freeze on the above settings?

Make sure you do the artifact scan for GPU.

Also try one more thing, try running it in safe mode with just the total basic drivers and nothing else, at least we can exclude software issue this way.

Any chance you can get other PSU to try with ?

Really try this stuff first before you buy, maybe we'll spot the problem :).

If nothing works after you checked all then just go for GAP35DS3L, no point spending 100 quid on mobo when 50 worth one will do the job just as well.

Ok cheers, i'll try the safe mode thing for a bit.

Artifact scan didn't detect anything after 30+ minutes, got to 83 temp wise.

Can't get another psu atm.

Would rather spend the cash and have it work now then spend another week trying to fix it...

Thanks for all the help btw.

Thats a really strange stuff you got there mate,
We might have missed something but as you can guess it's really hard to say like that,
you need to see this exactly by yourself to be sure what's going on with more complicated problems :).

You said artifact scan didnt have any issues for 30+ min, so it freezes at more than 30 ? or under 30? or randomly ? 30 min is really not much of a test.

On the other hand if you got the cash, just buy the GA P35DS3L, it's a great motherboard, just as good as most of the 70-80 quid range ones and for much less.
One of the better boards i've been using.

Hope that will sort out your problem, if not then you're in troubles :-).
I would get the rig to some friend and try with diff PSU.

3 hours and 50 minutes with orthos on blend.

I'ma going with the mobo issue..

it still died in safe mode and the drivers are all fresh installs anyway ..
