Firstly, I was giving my X2 4400 a whupping overnight, it primed on one core overnight at 3ghz with 1.8v going into it.

Thats the best its ever managed, it normally gives up on prime after 45 minutes at that speed. I also have to admit to not testing the full range of voltages so I guess its possible it can do this at a lower vcore. Similarly I haven't dual primed it with more than about an hours success.

2 questions based on this.. (neither of which are "is it stable" so no opinions on that please ;))

1) The temp when priming on 1 core got into the positive, it was hovering between -2/3 and +2/3 with the fans on 75%. At what sort of temperature does a phase become ineffective? ie is there a tipping point? And is this point related to instability? I'm guessing for the cpu temp to be at around 0 it has to be kicking out a hell of a lot of heat?

2) Anyone any ideas on good 4400 steppings? I have a modded mach 2 threatening to have it at -60 (according to previous owner) so coldbugs are to be avoided. I know some 3800s are going well, does the extra cache on the 4400 really make much difference?

the extra chache on the 4400 can be viewed as having it run at about 100mhz more. sorry i dont know which steppings are going well. hope this helps.

Hmm ok, next question, when I was watercooled the difference between idle and load was about 8 to 10c, going by mbm5 the difference I have now is more like 20c. Have I made an armholes of fitting it?

No 20C is normal, water has a much better heat capacity so it deals with load temps better, though obviously starts at a higher temp.

If you look at the head temperature and compare it against:-

It'll give you a rough idea of the heat load, and if it's a LS the point at which it'll fail (200W for a Rev2 I think).

I've overloaded a Vapochill XS, and basically the compressor will cut out and you'll need to wait for the refrigerant to cool down a bit.

Edit:- Ahh you've got a modded GT, just use the LS as a guideline.
