Hi

Firstly in my current pc i have ATI 12.8 drivers with an ATI card, so if I install a nvdia 680 would I have to uninstall all ATI drivers?

I mean take every thing ATI related off my PC? then install the Nvdia drivers, or do i just leave the ATI stuff including the application profiles and just install nvidia drivers?

Reason being is many people state that they have ati and nvdia on 1 machine, so mix drivers wont be an issue?

2ndly can you mix 2 680s or 2 7970s of different brands on one machine? example 1 could be sapphire and he other HIS, also if 1 was refrence and the other non refrence, can you sli or xfire?

Im thinking that the diffrent clock speeds of to diffrent 680s/7970s will cause issues?

Thank you, just some information I need clarification on from the knowledgable forum members.

Yes.

Everything.

They run hybrid machines, i.e. machines with a main AMD card(s) and then a lower spec nVidia card for PhysX only. Having two sets of drivers on your machine shouldn't cause problems but is has done for a fair few people previously :).

Yes you can mix different brands of the same cards.

Won't cause an issue on paper although I personally believe you should set the clock speeds to the lowest common denominator. So if one card clocks to 1150 and the other to 1175, I would set them both to 1150.

I believe differing clock speeds have the potential to introduce microstutter or make it more noticeable than with identical clock speeds. This is just a loose theory though and I know others who run different speeds with no concerns.

I ran 2 different 680's on different clock speeds without issue. I only changed to 2 of the same brands because of going water cooled.

Use driver sweep to get rid of AMD drivers if you are switching :)

If you're considering 2x 7970s, take a look at 2x 7950s. The performance is so close with a bit of moderate overclocking that you'll never notice the difference, for a chunk less money.

7970s, GTX670s and GTX680s are all over priced for the performance they give.

yes there is a massive price difference between the 680s and 670s and same again with the 7950s 7970s,

but considering the 670 thats the same price as a 7970 but many people would prefer a 7970 over the 670, yes?

yesterday I bought the msi lightning for £360 and free delivery, this included the £20 discount, but somthing on the back of my head decided that I should have gone for the 670, but after reading a few reviews it shows that the 7970 is more comfortable with my default resolution 2560x1440 while the 670 is more of a 1900x1080 resolution...

Apparently the 670 struggles playing Arkham Asylum on 2560x1440

I wish I could wait a few more months for the 8000 series cards or the nvidia 760/780 as my 5970 xfire really struggles with todays games on high resolution/settings and the buzzing/rattling fan on my 5970 is driving me up the wall.

You should have gone for a 7950 and overclocked it.

Cards above 7950s are just not worth the price, they're a waste of money.

Unless you have the money and are willing to part with the extra for 5-10% boost in performance. I know i did, and was.

Without knowing their finances, how can you say its a waste of money when value for money is in itself subjective?

Because it's not subjective. Whether the "value" matters or not is what's subjective.

With a moderately overclocked 7950 you won't notice the difference between a 7950 and a 7970 at the same clock speeds. It's less than 5% for more than 30% more money.

in your opinion

personally, based on the user results I've seen on here of less than optimal OC's and the resulting minimum frame rates, for me personally a 670 / 7970 would be the lowest step down I would go to

You are putting your opinion as Gospel again I see. Far to many 7970/680 owners will disagree with you.

Why buy a skoda if you can afford a Ferrari?

It disturbs me that you feel the need to tell me that my own opinion is in fact, my own opinion.
