I'm building a PC for someone. Long story short they're getting my old components minus case and PSU which is buggered.

Firstly how is the Xigmatek Asgard II as a budget case?

What is the minimum wattage i'd need for a 4870 1gb, q6600 OC'd etc. it's currently on a 600w modxtreme but they're on a tight budget so I'm looking for the cheapest possible PSU that isn't a peice of crap that will blow up and has decent wattage.

On another note, the problem with my old PSU is the fan doesn't work, apart from that it seems ok. Is this a serious problem as I was lead to believe? Am I going to electrocute myself if I attempt to fix it?

I think there was a good offer on the xfx 850watt here is that still on? The Xigmatek Asgard II is well regarded for features as a budget case.

You definitely shouldn't anything over 500 Watts, and probably not more than 400 Watts.

PSU fans are easy enough to fix if you’ve a suitable fan and you're sensible about it. Just give it plenty of time after disconnecting it from the mains (overnight for example) for the capacitors to discharge, and don’t reconnect the mains until the lid is back on.

Yeah, the Modxtreme is the one that's broke. Or at least I wouldn't be comfortable putting it in someone else's PC.

I was looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-063-OC&tool=3

Acceptable?

It's not a great unit to be honest but it is cheap. No harm in getting a cheap case but dont skimp on the PSU.

YOUR BASKET
1 x OCZ ZT 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Modular Power Supply £63.98
1 x OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
Total : £125.08 (includes shipping : £9.25).

The ZS is cheaper but isn't modular, the ZT is fully modular. Both have a 5 year warranty, if you are using a midi tower case then having a modular PSU is a great help
