specs:

Corsair: 520 PSU
Asus p5w deluxe m/b
connect 3d x1900xt
2gig geil ram

& several hdd's & 2 optical drives

done all the usual tests like running this comp barebones, psu mb ram & g/card, and there is a buzz most prominante from the PSU, but it only really happens when theres is disk activity. (maybe some arching???) which is rather weird, it starts then stops for a few seconds then starts again etc etc.

Gonna get a 20pin to 24 pin adapter today from somewhere in town. but do you guys think an Antec truepower 430 PSU will keep this lot alive till I get the RMA sorted out?

Could do with an answer quite quickly as I really don't want to leave this comp on.

Well it does appear to be the Corsair PSU as I have my old Antec running the system at the moment.

RMA time.

Not all that read have the ability to answer.

Sounds like you've already sorted it, but my advice would be yes, if the psu is buzzing under certain conditions then RMA it for sure. Either something is arcing as you suggest or the step downs inside are faulty (they make nice buzzing noises when faulty I've found) either way you don't want your house burned down lol.

I'd imagine a decent 400w PSU can keep the base specs going but you don't give much detail on HD's, I'd probably suggest one optical and 2 hard drives would be no problem, much more and i'd say if you experience instability to unplug anything not used/needed until the RMA gets back.

Just seen the thread, i'd send the psu back for sure, any kind of buzzing from a PSU is never a good sign.

Yeah also agree the Antec should be fine.

Indeed, not many will have experience or feel able to comment, better that then you get a load of nonsense replies or aimless guessing :p

And to the actual topic, your Antec should be fine but it might be near the edge there.
