Hey all.
I am looking for a new laptop!. The problem is that the laptop needs to have some specific specs to catre to my needs. The problem is that all of the laptops have been way out of bugdet & specs. I primarily want a laptop for web development. This means mostly coding, requiring a good resolution and big screen. a Cpu/Ram that can manage minimal photoshop/fireworks usage.

Below is what I am after.
17''+ screen (19 would be lovelly)
HD no an issue
1GB+ Ram
CPU Not an issue.

All I am after is screen size, I want lots of retail space, every laptop I have looked at with big screens with nice resolutions have impressive CPU's HD space and Ram. I dont need this. I just want something that has a big screen and is cheap. It will only be running an OS, WAMP environment and a notepad style editor.

I need it to be portable but not ultra-portable. Getting to and from uni and setting up base on the grounds is what I need, not something light enough to sit in my bag without me knowing, I drive for a reason.

Cheers all.

Anyone have any good suggestions?

17" laptop and portable are kind of mutually exclusive - they tend to be more geared towards desktop replacement roles.

The Dell Vostro 1710 seems pretty cheap for what you get and you can even spec a WUXGA (1920x1200) screen if you so wish.

My new machine for development purposes is a Thinkpad R500 which is 15.4" and plenty big enough for the task. It's also got an WSXGA+ res (1680x1050) which I find perfect for the dot pitch and allows you to get quite a lot of code on the screen at once.

The 1710 does look very tempting, + a dedicated graphics card might even be capable of some gaming.... stop.. no.. must resist... work machine only!
