Right all, basically after a core2 mainboard, it has to have at least 8 sata and ideally SLI as an option, but not majorly important. This board HAS TO last AGES, (quad core ideally ending up with !, possibily even the new quad cores if there 775 interface? ) Also another reason it has to last is im getting OEM vista 64bit so it will be tied to the mainboard.

Short list is:

Gigabite DS3 965Pi (new 1333fsb board) - it has 8sata but I know it runs hot and aint SLI

680i/650i board of some sorts - Hear theres a new evga one, otherwise im out of info

Intel Extreme D975XBX2KR BAD AXE 2 - Apprently has 1333 fsb according to ocuk info page, also 8 sata, no sli though, worth the money over ds3? - a good choice or not ?

Any more info guys ?

EDIT: Just found the BFG nForce 680 (Socket 775).......apparently it has 10x sata ? is this true ? also its sli and 1333 fsb ready, looks to be what im looking for, is the 10 sata true though , bfg website says its 6 ??

EDIT 2: Will be using T Tower so this has to fit

That board is the same NVidia reference board as most of the other 680i boards. You may or may not be aware that the 680i boards have an issue which precludes them getting much over 310FSB with quad-cores.

there is a way around this - If you have the QX6700 then you can up the multiplier to allow a bigger overclock, otherwise the existing 680i boards are a bad bet for overclocking Quad-cores.

EVGA have modified their version of the board to overclock Quad-cores properly and they are replacing existing boards FOC (including cross-shipping) which none of the other are doing yet. If you are buying a 680i board then either check it's been modified by the manufacturer or buy an EVGA so you can have it swapped for a good one.

My EVGA board is exactly the same as the BFG and it only has 6 SATA ports I'm afraid. 10 USB ports though :)

I see, hmmmm needs a lot more thinking, EVGA or nothing then I guess, as quad core will be going in there. Also do they support new quads? not the ones currently available, but future realeases

ds4 is ds3 with sli stuff

650i all have two ide headers so i doubt any will have 8 sata? they just got a 1333fsb bios release though

ahh i see, may as well go asus then, prefer them to gigabite.....there is soo many annoyances with regards to mainboards right now

Hmmm what about the GA-965P-DQ6 (rev. 3.3) ?? seems to be a DS3 but with better onboard chipset cooling unit..........is that the only difference ? rest looks exactly the same to me, why the DS ans DQ naming ?
