A disc read error has occured.

I have a laptop that was working fine and within 5 minutes I turned around to it and I got a message saying 'A disc read error has occured.'

I tried to run a HDD test but the boot menu says 'Hard drive not exist' - It's a HP.

Safe to say the HDD is dead?

Can you take it out and try it in an enclosure or hook it up to your desktop?

i would say failed drive then and probs very little chance of getting any data back

Other than a dodgy connection that does usually indicate a dead drive.
