A dog in a flat

In my opinion unless you are prepared to put the time in to stop it barking then no I odnt think it is suitable. This is coming from someone who lived above a copule with a yapper and it made us move, it was very loud and i dont think its fair atall. Even in a modern semi i would still be looking to keep yappin right down.

One that can do this ....

I live in a 1st floor flat with a Boxer, no problems, in fact she's quite a celebrity around here; mind you, they are all retired .... lol
You have to spend the time with 'em for training and exercise where ever you live, so if you can't give 'em quality time, don't get one.
Otherwise good luck.

Is it Ricky Hatton?

I'm not 'allowed' a dog until we have have a house with a garden - if I am not allowed a dog in a flat, then neither is your g/f!
(otherwise the unfairness would make me cry)

Flats and dogs just Isn't fair, cat maybe but not a dog. If you went to a rehoming centre and they visited your property they wouldn't allow it

Seconded! I feel your pain, I'm not allowed one either :(

If you went to a proper rehoming place/repuatable breeder you wouldn't pass the homecheck unless you have a secure garden. Greyhounds are good dogs and don't need too much exercise and could possibly suit life in a flat. Though, every animal is an individual and you might find a dog that most people would think was unsuitable has a low enough energy level for flat life.

Dogs need looking after. For a flat i'd say a small dog as it'll get reasonable amounts of exercise just running around.

I've had 2 dogs, a Boxer and a Rotweiller. Great pets. Biggest surprise for me was how much sleeping they do, but they need their walks otherwise they don't settle.

IMO you need a garden to have a dog.

We always wanted dogs, but waited until we had a place with a garden before getting one.

Basically, a dog needs somewhere to wee and poo, and dogs don't do litter trays.

You don't need a garden to have a dog, you need the right mind to be able to put the effort in to get up every morning regardless of weather and walk him/her, then again mid day ish and a longer walk on a night time.

If your GF wants a dog and you don't then you will have more problems as it will cause arguments about when she wants you to help etc.

As for breed of dogs if you look at any breed you want as none will be adverse to living in a flat aslong as you excercise them fully.

Collies/Spaniels should have around 3hrs a day
GSDs 2hrs
Shar Pei 30min - 1hr

Basically I would suggest getting a dog which you want as a puppy and training it as if you get a rescue you could end up having to give it back if it doesn't take to your flat.

For the record I think you should get a german shepherd as a puppy (pic for clarity)

And watch them grow in to a bigger pup
