First up, My specs are E4300 @ 3.2GHZ, 2GB DDR2 Geil, P5N-E SLI, 8800 GTS.

I wanted to add another 2 1GB sticks (so I had 4 sticks, each 1GB to fill the 4 ram slots on the board). Would this cause any problems with my overclock?

I am running Windows XP SP2 32 bit, would the ram cause any problems (I know it wont detect all of it) but I also use Vista 64 and I know that will.

Will the programs I use like photoshop CS3 have a major speed improvement as well?

Thanks for reading :)

My understanding is that 4 sticks vs 2 sticks puts quite a bit more strain on the Northbridge as it has to do more work, which can affect your overclock. IIRC you may need more voltage for the northbridge and the temps on it may rise. And you may need to drop the overclock a bit too.

See this about your photoshop question.

So basically more ram for the win with Photoshop CS3 :)

The only thing that is bugging me now though is how the ram will affect windows XP SP2 32 bit when I am in that rather than Vista 64... and of course will it really nuke my overclock to much :(

I have 4 * 1 Gb mem in my system. Xp detects about 3.5 gig.

It seems theres a little speed boost in Xp for 4 gig over 2 gig.

The only part of my overclock it affected was that i had to loosen the ram timings slightly.

Never had photoshop can't answer that bit.

Hi,

I have just upgraded to 4GB and haven't had to reduce my overclock at all under Windows XP. It's worked perfectly and that's with a good overclock on the CPU and memory.

i'm using vista 64 with 4gb and i got the same overclock on my e6700 (only 3.2) but that's on stock ant the ram is running 4-4-4-12

The P5N-E SLI can't run 4 sticks over 533mhz. It's a 650i chipset issue.

Tho it's not the end of the world since the 650i can run the memory slower than the FSB.

I just got 4GiG Domintor, it cannot clock more then 30-50mhz and cant tighten timings from slack 5-5-5-18, its really bad, and since I aint using my free copy of Vista (from MS) and wont till SP1, I think I will get 2GiG as its enough for high end gaming in XP64. :(

Hope some day 2GiG sticks improve, suppose 1GiG sticks were same when they arrived on market at 1st.

Running 4GBs of Ram (4 x 1Gbs) with XP Pro (32bit) and Vista Business (64bit), XP Pro "sees" 3GBs, Vista "sees" 4GBs, as regards OC going from 2GB to 4GB, it has not been affected at all, E6600 @3.4GHz, with Ram timings of 3-3-3-6. When I added the extra 2GBs of Ram, I didn't have to change any voltages at all, I am using an Asus P5WDG2 WS Pro mobo.

Photoshop like Ram! ;)
