A few annoyances with my computer

The first of which is that randomly my optical drive will stop workig. It will be still open so I can put a disk in, close will sometimes spin (but not always) and then nothing will happen. To resolve this i need to turn off my PC and re-jig the cables. I'm guessing the answer here is a new optical drive?

Another problem seems to be W7 based, it but I have done multiple fresh installs which haven't change anything. The problem being that I can't switch between windows I have open; alt+tab doesn't work but sometimes just flashes at me, clicking the open icons on the task bar does nothing, trying to do it via task manager does nothing as well and if I minimise something I can't get it back. This doesn't happen all the time but seems to happen at least once a day.
*edit* I have just realised that windows + tab does work so that is less annoying.

I am sure there are a few other little problems but I can't remember them right now, I have just got back from 3 months in Greece so I have forgotten what other annoyances I may have with my PC but will add more if they crop up!

Thanks,

Flare

Possibly, but I would try a different power connector and SATA cable first.

Have you tried a different keyboard - drivers?

What's your MB - it may be that a BIOS flash may fix the problem - have a look at the blurb attached to the BIOS updates.

Check that all your hardware drivers are up to date - and that window critical updates is set to auto.

Also check the windows recommended updates - there may be something relevent to your hardware that sticks out (don't set this to auto.)

Thanks but I have tried both already.

Everything is up to date and it can't be the keyboard because even when i try to switch windows via task manager or with the mouse i get the same problem.

Additional: Did you buy the media version of W7 or the download/licence?

If it was downloaded it may have been corrupted - try a fresh download/install?

Do you by anychance have a 2nd monitor or tv connected as well, as mine was going to the tv i had connected and as the tv was turned off icould not see the windows when alt tabbing

Did you see my update - a BIOS update may help (outside chance - but not unknown).
Nope I did not but I will give it a go.

I bought the media.

Haha, no it's not that :p
