my new rig is in my sig below, right now it's only running on BIOS, so all i can see is the MOBO OC SOFTWARE..... the fans are on setting 4 i think ( i'm not at home right now).....but what is odd is that the fans were running faster when connected up to my old rig.

1.....will the fan speed increase when i load Win 7 and start OCing
or is there something else going on here..... the cpu power fan seems ok, it's the front two intakes

i've done this before so i'm a real newbie to all of this

thanks

hi it's just the standard stuff you get here, its sold in sheets, search for Acoustipack.

i'll post in when my rig is OCd about the CPU lapping, but usually it reduces temps by 4 to 5 degrees. you have to lap the CPU and the cooler together, but it can damage the cpu, so please dont do it just because i have, it's just something that we used to be do 6 years ago.

If they are four pin pwm fans they will speed up/slow down depending on temps,3 pin fans run at a constant speed there are settings in the BIOS to set them at certain speeds ect and they stay at that speed in BIOS and OS

yes i have 3 pin fans only, there are ``spare`` 4 pin power fan connections on the mobo, but this means i'll need those 4 pin sockets

If you have set nothing up to control the fans speed, then they will be at full speed? If they are louder than your last build then somthing was limiting them in the last one, but now nothing is.

You sure you should be lapping your CPU? From some of your previous threads its seams your computer knowledge is.... lacking (no offense meant)

Please don't varnish it...

ha ha, my reputation goes before me :D... no the cpu works fine, the fans run slower now than when i had them connected to my last rig, but maybe this is due to my new rig only running on BIOS right now..... but in comparison my old rig was OCd

i dont know if fan setting 4 in bios oc software is fast or slow... it could be 1 that's fast

i have to wait 2 weeks until i can afford Win 7 and then i'll post in, i intend to buy new fans anyway, i'll get twin 140mm next week.

they say 4 to 5 degrees but it might not be, yes it makes sense that it improves the cooling, but by what amount is hard to say, the other thing that deffo effects it is how much you tighten the cooler down/ apply the cooler paste etc.... now this is quite hard to get right

dont worry i deffo wont forget, lets see how we get on, because next week i need to sort out those fans :D and boost the cooling far more

ok i've moved the front fans forward and i've added another 80mm fan under the PCI slots (under the card) but on the outside of the case, the air is now rushing under the card and straight out the back at high speed, plus it's rushing into the CPU cooler as well and straight out the back too, i've only moved the fans about 3'' closer to the Mobo, but it doesn't half make a difference.... in comparison, the air is moving quite slowly through the PSU.

the case is flippin miles colder inside than it was last week, i'm getting Win 7 today from here
