Hey.

I have been giving a lot of thought lately into a dual monitor setup. As I code a lot of applications it would be really helpful for me to have another screen. However, I have a few questions.

1) Can I get another monitor at a different resolution and size? My current one is 20" (or 22", can't remember and need to measure^^) and at the resolution of 1680x1050. I would like to grab at least a 22" with a resolution of 1920x1080 to use as the primary monitor and my old 20" as a secondary in the dual setup.

2) Would a 1920x1080 monitor be better in terms of colours, picture, sharpness etc or is the increased resolution caused by the increase in screen size?

3) Would this ASUS monitor be any good? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-027-AS&groupid=17&catid=949&subcat= I generally just play games, code, browse net etc with a little photoshop at times, but noting major. My budget is around £100 and I would prefer a 22".

4) On my 7850 graphics card, I only have the HDMI and DVI connectors - do dual monitor setups need to be the same output or can they be both?

Thank you for any help, much appreciated:)

Thanks!:D

1) Yes, can mix and match

2) Depends on monitor. Make, panel type, pixel density (Based on resolution and size) etc. Generally higher resolutions represent sharper pictures. Picture quality and Colour differs also, mainly on panel type. A TN panel will have poorer colours than an IPS panel but the latter is far more expensive.

3) At that budget you do not get a huge amount of choice. The Asus VE228H is a TN panel so viewing angels will not be amazing and colour reproduction will be poor compared to something like a more expensive IPS panel. If you need a monitor for colour critical work then this would not be a good choice. For gaming TN panels have better response times and usually less input lag.

4) Can mix and match whatever outputs you want.

Thanks for your reply, it helped a lot:)

However, I don't plan to do major colour critical work. I normally only do a little bit of photoshop now and again and I don't think it's worth forking over another £70 or so for one of them 22" Dell ultrasharps.

I also managed to find my old monitors model (which was bit of a challenge) and it's a Philips 220SW9FS Specs seem pretty similar, and the Phillips monitor cost me £100 when I got in it in 2009. It's also a 22" and the Asus has got better resolution and other than that the specs are almost identical.

As far as I can gather the Asus (or anyone in the similar price range) can cope well with everyday tasks?

Thanks again, it helped a lot. I'm a bit of a monitor newb^^
