Howzit guys.

I have a set of 5.1 speaks, which were working before I reinstalled my machine and loaded Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit onto it.

Now everything else has been fine. However I have noticed that I am not getting the full 5.1 sound, that I should be getting. I downloaded and installed the sound drivers for my motherboard. Gigabyte P35-DQ6. I have the little orange icon in my task bar for the sound.

When I open it up and set it to 5.1, I should that rear speakers are disabled.

However when I set it to 7.1 and enable side par speakers, I am able to get test sound working through them. Also, my center speaker no longer works. However during test sound setup, it works fine.

Am I correct that when playing music I should hear some sound through all speakers?

Greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

If you're using something like a Creative X-Fi you'd need to have CMSS 3-D enabled in order to get sound playing through all the speakers as ordinarily it'll only play through the front two side speakers.

Can you post what sort of setup you're using please?

Yes, sorry.

I am use the onboard sound from my motherboard and a genius 5.1 setup. When I had Windows 32 bit and an older motherboard it was running just fine.

I've just opened the control option for the sound and it shoulds the rear speakers greyed out when I select 5.1 setup. However if I select 7.1 and test the rear and center soeakers, it plays just fine. :(
