Evening all,

Decided to make the jump to Mac not so long ago, and recently just received ym Macbook. Have been using it for the last few days, and a few concerns have a arisen and I was hoping a few of you may be able to put my mind at ease.

First off, when the lid is shut it moves ever so slightly to the left and right. It only happens when you physically move the lid yourself, but wasn't to sure if it should move at all like that. Wondering if it's just a natural Macbook thing due to the magnet seal it uses.

Secondly, dirt. The Macbook has been in and out of my Uni bag for a few days now, and I've noticed it collects dirt and finger prints a lot. Any suggestions on how to clean it and do you recommend a slip case of some sort to protect it whilst it's in a bag?

Reading back, I know a few of these things sounds daft, but I just want to make sure everything is the way it's supposed to be before my gaurentee runs out.

Cheers for your time folks.

Its a pain and happens to all computers, although certain colours hide the dirt/dust/finger prints a lot better. A lint-free cloth would be the best to clean it, you could make it a bit damp but remember computer + water = bad, so don't make it too moist, just the tiniest amount.

Get an incase neoprene sleeve for it. You can buy them from the apple store!

I wouldn't ever lug my MacBook around in a bag without a slip case! Seems fragile enough as it is...

Yeah, I would agree. But I only discovered that once I got it, and I really need to take it into Uni, so had no choice sadly.

Went ahead and ordered that slip case from Apple's store this morning. Looks like it'll get the job done.

I'm assuming no one else then experiences the lid moving thing then?

I think it's the way that it is designed. Mine tilts very slightly from side to side, either side of the hinge. Don't think it will do any damage though

my MBP when closed, the left side is very slightly higher than the right and it is possible to push one side down.
Annoying to have such a small fault at such a high price!

I've had a few Powerbooks/G4 towers/Imacs etc, and they have all been much better quality than the MBP I have now.

My last G4 Powerbook I had for a year. When I came to sell it I just gave it a going over with some glass cleaner and it literally looked like new, apart from the chrome coming off the power button. This MBP I've had about 6 months - the lid doesnt shut evenly (as said by the poster above) the eject key isnt straight, the casing is prising apart by the powerbutton, which I think might be heat related and this ones also losing its chrome! Also, more worrying, theres a slight imprint from the keyboard on the screen, as if when its shut the two are meeting.

When it comes time to change this I'll be taking a long hard look at the apple build quality, as for £1500 this one just isnt good enough.

Yeah, as much as I love the design of the Macbook, it does feel pretty flimsy in places. Disappointing after spending £700+ on it. It seems that issues I've come across are just annoying design flaws, and there isn't much that can be done. Still, doesn't stop them being irritating.

So, glass cleaner, eh? Will that work on the material Macbooks are made of, or just the Powerbook/Macbook Pro material?

IF you can put up with a bit of smell for a bit try some viniger with a bit of water am sure that wont harm it as it Natrual

Tucano second skin slip case if you value your investment.

Damp cloth, lint free for the wiping. DOn't use anything not specifically designed for it unless you are willing to live with a stain! Personally water works fine.
