Just need some guidance on a few questions I have in my head regarding ‘NAS’
My present system is as follows..............
Netgear DG834G V2 Wireless Router attached directly to BT master socket via a ADSLNation socket in the lounge.
Upstairs I have a desktop PC connected to router via a ‘D-Link TP-Link 300Mbps High-Gain Wireless-N USB Adapter’ This one.http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-023-TP
I also have a Laptop which wirelessly connects to Router
(Desktop PC & Laptop is also on my homegroup for file sharing)
In another part of my lounge I have an AV Unit with:
PS3 (with a 1TB Fat32 External HD attached to PS3’s USB)
and Squeezebox wireless music player (which plays music from Desktop PC)
I will send a cable (is it Cat 5/5e/6/ethernet/bridge?) from router to AV unit and into a ‘Switch’
I will then use cables (again 5/5e/6 etc?) from PS3, Music player to switch which I believe will now make my system ‘wired’
Now I want to sort out some storage and I was thinking a 2 bay‘NAS’ would be the way to go. I want to have 2 drives having exactly the same on both, I believe that is called Raid 1? So if 1 HD dies, I simply replace with another HD.
I also want to be able to run Squeezebox Music Server on the NAS so enabling me not to have the desktop PC on.
I want to be able to send any photos/movies for example from my laptop, to the NAS and it automatically puts them on both.
One other question. Can in the future I add another NAS to the switch if I wanted more storage? Is that how it is done. So perhaps in the future I can have one NAS for films, one for photos etc.
I am so sorry for this being so long winded.
Thanks if you do reply.
