Question 1
Built 3 rigs all around; Thermaltake 520w modular psu, Gigabyte GAP35-DS3R, E2180, 2Gb Corsair PC6400, Sapphire 3870, 250gb sata hdd.
Overclocked em all to 3.1GHz with no probs at all, and temps were approx. 50°C on load.
Over the past few months i've noticed that all 3 have at some time reset themselves to the bios defaults.
Seems now that i'm having trouble re-applying the settings to get them back up to 3Ghz stable. I wonder why they now won't stabilize out.
The kids use them for gaming primarily, but they certainly don't overheat when maxed out.
Question 2
Just upgraded my rig to the one in my sig. Stock cooler is giving 50°+ on all 4 cores idle (????)
I need a much better cooler. So far my various overclocked core2duo's have used Artic Freezer Pro 7, Zalman CNPS9700 and a Tuniq Tower, pasted up with either Artic silver 5 or MX-2. I don't particularly rate one above the other as neither have significantly lowered temps below what the stocker cooler usually does.
However i DO need a amc for the Q9450. Which one though?
One thing i have found with amc's is that the bigger they are, the more difficult they are to fit, and hence slip/slide around on the cpu when trying to fit them, possibly distributing the paste over the cpu in a non-uniform way. Maybe this is why my temps never really drop dramatically.
Anyone got a rig similar to mine? If so, how are you overclocking it?
Your opinions please
