Ok, well I have been looking through this forum for a while and decided I would like to show a few photos I have taken over the last couple of years for some professional analysis. They were taken by a bog standard compact camera so aren't brilliantly sharp but other than that I think they arent too bad. All the photos have had just basic auto colour/contrast if needed. I hope they're not too bad and would like some comments as to how to possibly improve them in photoshop if thats possible. :)

Thanks

The first couple were taken in spain

The next two were taken on a very stormy night in the channel.

I like the first images in both of your posts.

The image in your first post can be improved by tweaking the contrast in photoshop.
The image in your 2nd post just needs the people and trucks cloning out and a darker blue gradient added to the sky.

A couple of quick edits

Photo1 - Just changed the Curve profile, Image -> Adjustments -> Curves - see below.

Photo 2 - Cloned out the people and added a Levels layer mask to make the sky darker

Even though it lacks so much contrast the first is a really stunning capture. I notice that SDK has corrected the capture but I couldnt resist having my own go from your original and giving it a deep processing.

edited orignal

Fstop11 what would you do to improve shot No 2? Select the sea and increase saturation perhaps? I'd be interested to see what you would do with it (and how).

Well thats a tricky shot to restore to a good looking photograph. RAW would have been great here.

Because of the huge cave like frame that wraps the image you want to make all of your adjustments to the image by breaking them down into parts using the 15px feathered lasso tool and using your curves adjustments make small alterations curves to bring back detail lost in over exposure. Then using your burn tool at 30% strength paint back some shadow details in areas such as the beach, sky and curves photographed in the image. lastly using your sponge tool set to saturate, again paint over the areas you want a boost of colour. again 30% as you can go abit OTT with it. I think I already did.

I wasnt really sucessful in restoring the photo look but my adjustments have given it a painting look to it ( which IMO looks far better )

Link to edit of Image 2

Further editing will remove the CA from around the edges but I only did this to answer your question.

Thanks for all the input and help, I will definitly have a go at adding more contrast to the photos, they ddnt look too bad until SDK showed me what they could look like. :p

The first shot is excellent. I love the single boat sailing along. :)
I'd clone out the tiny white spec in the water - so the boat is truly alone. :)

Thanx for that, I'll print this off because it is sure to come in handy (I've never used the sponge tool before). The wife has taken many photos from beneath shaded beach bars/shacks in India which have similar shading around the edges.

i really like the first one. as someone said, it would've benefitted from RAW, but heyho.

i had a little play because i didnt really like what anyone else did with it. hope you like it.
