hi all
my venerable i7 2700 gave up the ghost recently.Years of 4.8ghz and well either it or the old motherboard is toast.
Anyway I purchased:
Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Avexir Blitz Original Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C17 3600MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit - Red
I have a few issues which I hope are solvable
1. RAM will not run at XMP speeds, best I can get is about 3000mhz
I was hoping it was a matter of dropping in the RAM and selecting XMP, but no, I guess things haven't moved on that much in 5 years. Is it still a matter of messing around with RAM timings to get RAM stable.
Does anyone have any success with another brand of RAM with this mobo?
2. The system will not restart properly. It usually works after a cold start, but not when the restart option is used from WIN10.
I have a 4.5 overclock on the chip. It seems to be running stable with watercooling in games and such.
many thanks
