A few questions about The new quad cores

hi, i have heard about these new intel quad cores and just wanted to know a few more things.

When is it going to be released
Is it going to need a new chipset or would the current motherboard be compatible

and also what operating system could i use, Windows xp pro is only 1 - 2 cpu, Would i need to use a linux/unit Os or is vista multi processor compatible.

Also are there any apps being made to use these quad cores?

IIRC Xp is limited to dual cpu, but not how many cores that are actually on each cpu.

as said,

xp will run 2 physical cpus, ie a motherboard with 2 physical cpu sockets on it.

It will run a single physical cpu with 4 cores on it with no issues.

no idea...can someone shed some light, am curious about this too....but i think that the quads will be v expensive!!
